A Bee used my Birdbath today- A sign of Hope. Yes, this makes my heart sing. Why? Because the world needs more bees. This little workhorses give us so much. They are to be honored and supported. Not poisoned by humans.

What do they give us? They give us our food. Without them, we don’t have food. Well, that is a bold statement? You bet, because these little ones need our support and our help, now more than ever.

Bees are responsible for the pollination of many of our fruits and vegetables. My goodness, why are endangering them with sprayed pesticides on our ground and in the air.  Why are we jeopardizing the hand that feeds us?

Ever since I read that bees were becoming extinct in some states in the United States, I set out to do what I could in the corner of my world. I participated in “nomowMay.” I had never heard of it before and thought, what is it? You essentially don’t start mowing your lawn until June to allow the bees to eat the first flowers in Spring – the dreaded dandelion. Well, I don’t dread it anymore, actually I have always loved them especially when the yellow part turns into that fluffy , whispy puff ball that you can blow on.

That “nomowMay” turned into letting my lawn get long enough to now grow buttercups and other things that people call weeds before it gets cut. Yes, it’s not the picture perfect green lawn that people in suburbia seem to love. And I don’t really care anymore.

I am at a point in my life where green lawns don’t matter, what matters to me is that each of us leaves this world a better place than what it was before.

And I want to do my part. So, I have started to plant a pollinator garden in my front and back gardens and I turned my birdbath into a shared bath for the bees and the birds. How? I put stones in there and sticks for the bees to land safely. If you don’t put something in there for them to land on they will drowned. How do I know? One of them did and I was so sad.

Can we all  make a choice to save the bees and to save our own lives?  I challenge each of us to stop the use of pesticides on our lawns, raise our voices to stop the chemical sprays in our skies.

“We are the world – we are the children we are the ones to make a brighter day, so let’s start giving” I still love this song just like I did when it came out  15 years ago. There is a choice we are making, can we make the choice to save the bees? Can we stop spraying pesticides on our lawns? Can we stop spraying our food? Can we stand up to save our little bees and ourselves or are we going to stand by and destroy ourselves. It’s our choice.

A Bee used my Birdbath today- A sign of Hope. A sign of Hope that there are bees still alive, still showing me that they are here, with us. Yes, my efforts arent’ huge, but this shows that even the smallest of efforts makes a difference.

A Bee used my Birdbath today- A sign of Hope- won’t  you join me in saving our bees?

With grace and so much love,

Kim
