As most of my friends and family know , I am a HUGE fan of homeopathy.  Whenever there is a health issue with myself, my animals, family or friends, that is where I turn. I am not a certified homeopath but I have had a LOT of experience with it with my animals (over 14 years) and their world-renowned homeopathic vets as well as trained human homeopaths over the last several years. It’s that time of year, so I thought I would let you know what my favorite homeopathic remedies for cold and flu season are.

Just a short note for those of you who don’t know what Homeopathy is, here is the cliff notes version:

*Homeopathy was founded some 200 years ago by a man named Samuel Hahnemann.  He was a physician who was born in Germany in 1755, studied in  Leipzig and Vienna and earned his M.D. degree in 1779.

  • This is a medicine created from plants, metals, insects, and even sometimes toxins.
  • Homeopathy takes these substances and potentizes them /dilutes to a very high level which makes them curative and gives them the ability to uproot an illness/issue.
  • It is NOT vitamins, herbal supplements or even the study of naturopathy (although many naturopaths use homeopathy in their practice)
  • Homeopathic hospitals were in many countries for years and years and some still exist today. And yes, my own home town Buffalo, NY had one or  two of these facilities. How I wish that could happen again!
  •  Homeopathy operates under the premise of “like cures like” – what does that mean anyway? It means for example if someone’s eyes are tearing and watery much like they do when we cut an onion, you would look for a remedy that is best used for that condition such as allium cepa (made from onion!). It might not be the exact remedy for that person if there are other things going on as well, but you get the idea?
  • Homeopathic medicine comes in little white pellets, sometimes granule size or liquid.

Back to cold and flu season – isn’t it fun? Nope! So many folks are sneezing, coughing these days. What is one to do?

Well, here are my go to homeopathic remedies:

Aconitum and Byronia – whenever I feel like something is coming on, this is what I reach for! Two different remedies. This is a Banerji protocal, used by homeopaths Pratik and XXX Banerji from India.

Gelsenium– this is great for…achy muscles , when you are super tired and just a general yukky feeling.

Rhus tox and Bryonia – I keep this around if I have body aches or my chest feels a bit heavy. This is a Banerji protocal as well.

Hepar Sulph– this is a great remedy for infection

Arsenicum Album-taken at first sign of cold symptoms

* please keep in mind that homeopathic remedies can be used for many different situations depending on the individual.

Other Items I take:

Vitamin C, up to about 10,000 IU’ s if it’s the height of the season, otherwise about 3,000 iu’s.  I use the liposomal variety. Why? Because it is more absorbable. …

And here is the link to what I use: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=quicksilver+scientific+liposomal+vitamin+c&i=hpc&crid=2O0AEG0VU7PQ5&sprefix=Quicksilver+sc%2Chpc%2C77&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_5_14

Dr. Mercola has a liquid, liposomal Vitamin C on his site now as well, although, I have not tried it.
